Florida's "North Shore"

About 3 year(s) ago by Perri Faulk

  Lake Apopka North Shore

If you’re interested in Florida wildlife but don’t want to make the trip to the Everglades take a short drive from our property to the Lake Apopka North Shore.

Per their brochure that is full of information about the wildlife drive:

“Lake Apopka is known for its bird population. This body of water is the headwaters of the Harris Chain of Lakes. At approximately 48.4 square miles in size, Lake Apopka is the fourth largest lake in Florida and receives water from spring flow, rainfall and storm-water runoff.”

The Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive is a one way 11-mile drive that begins at Lust Road and ends on Jones Road in Orange County, Fla. Open solely on weekends and federal holidays between sunrise and sunset the enchanting drive will bring you to the heart of Florida’s natural beauty. Gates are open during daylight hours but will close approximately one hour before sunset so that visitors are able to complete the drive and exit the property before sunset.

Several “pull over” areas line the drive allowing for guest a chance to stop along the drive and appreciate the scenic environment.

At the end of 2016 a self-guided audio tour was added to the property to give visitors an overview of the district’s restoration work on the former farmlands that make up the Lake Apopka North Shore. (An internet capable device is required for this feature and carrier rates apply.)
