Lake Buena Vista, Florida started its storied history under the name "Reedy Creek." The City of Reedy Creek was incorporated on May 12, 1967. On July 3, 1969, Reedy Creek was moved almost entirely into what had previously been Bay Lake, FL.

With the relatively new city's boundaries redefined, Reedy Creek soon after changed its name to Lake Buena Vista to reflect its lakeside location near Black Lake, which was then changed to "Buena Vista" or "good view." The Buena Vista part of the city's name is derived from Disney's Burbank, California street address. Today, Lake Buena Vista, Florida has come to be known as the Walt Disney capital of the world.
